INCH CLUTHA AFFAIRS.

CONFERENCE OF LOCAL BODIES. On Tuesday morning a conference was held at Milton between members of the Bruce County Council and the Inch Clutha Road, River, and Drainage Board in order to arrive at the board's request at some arrangement for the board to take over control of fcoal affairs. Ths board was represented by Messrs Jos. Mosley (chairman), A. Ball, John Smith, \Y, Weir, and Jas. M'Kinky (secretary), and the counc.il by Messrs D. Boyd (chairman), J. M. Begg, D. Uaidyne, W. Bell, T. Scott, T. Hitchon, T. H. Russell, H. M. Driver, J. Ci&rk, and P, Haggart, and L. "W. Potter (cleik). Mr A. Nelson (late county clerk) and Mr D. Reid (comity solicitor) were also present, .Mr D. Boyd occupicd tho chair, and Mr Jos. Mosley eat beside him. Mr Boyd moved—"That this meeting is agreeable, provided satisfactory arrangements can be made, that the control of local affairs in Inch Clutha be handed over to the Inch Clutha ltiver, ltoad, and Drainage Board."—This was seconded by Mr Driver and carried. After considerable dismission, mostly us to whether Clutha County Council should bear the cost of a proposed commission of inquiry into the ovedraft on Inch Clutha, to which course several of the'Bruce councillor objected, it was resolved—" That tho Inch Clutha. Road, River, and Drainage Board agrees to take over the debt on Inch Clutha, provided that a commission of inquiry bo held to eurtiffy the same as correct, the Governor-in-Couneil to be respectfully asked to appoint same; this meeting is agreeable, provided the matter is satisfactorily arranged between the local bodies; Inch Clutha Board to take over all county roafU in Inch Clutha." The Chairman said the riding's total indebtedness on loans was £800, and the riding account was £1019.' Tho question of the upkeep of tho punts and bridges was bumght up. Mr Mosley moved that Inch Clutha Board pay onethird of .the cost of tho two bridgesSeconded by Mr Haggart and carried unanimously. Mr Boyd moved—" That the Bruce County Council delegate to the Inch Clutha Road, River, and Drainage Board power to make, levy, and eolket all rates on Inch Clutha as provided by section 124 of the Counties Act; that tile several special rates now payable by the board be received by tho county curing the Currency of the respective loans os heretofore; that the board remain liable for all contribiilions payable under section 128, sub-sections (a) and (b); that the board collect its own fees' under the Dog Registration and other Acts."— This was seconded by Mr Mosley and carlied.
