MANCHESTER UNITY.
Members of tho Loyal Dunedin Lodge held their customary meeting on Thursday evening. N.G. Bro. Arnold presided. The business transacted included the nomination of four new members. P.P.G-.M. Bro. M'Dougall, on behalf of the trustees of the lodge, presented to the winners of tho recent euchre tournament (V.G. Bro. Arnold and Bro. W. Sheppard) the handsome prizes donated by them. P.P.G.M. Bro. C. Brundell reported having arranged for the officers and members (to the number of 20) of .the lodge to pay a visit to the Central Fire Station, and spend an hour or two in music,-etc., with the local fire-fighters. A letter of recommendation was granted a. brother to enable him to visit a sister lodge in the country. On behalf of tlie Albion Lodge Bro. Mac Donald returned thanks for the greetings extended to visiting members. The Prov. G.M. and tlie Prov. D.G.M. were also present and received a very hearty welcome, to which they suitably responded.
The members and their lady friends of tho Loyal H. awl H. Lodge were present in goodly numbers at tho lodgerocm on Tuesday evening last, and were agreeably entertained by a programme of exceptional merit arranged hy the N.G. of the lodge. A special feature of the programme was a conjuring performance by Mr D. Edwin Booth,.who kept the audience amused and interested with a really bewildering display, declared by competent judges to be equal to the work of the best professionals, During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs fc>. J. Gilbert and J. Swan, and recitations by P.G. Bro. H. Russell. Mrs Sligo officiated at the piano. A vote of thanks to the performers, and a fecial one to Mr Booth, were very heartily given by the audience. The business of the ledge, which was transacted at an earlier stage of the evening, included an official visit from four members of the District Executive, the C.S., Bro. Hopcraft, being on holiday leave in the North Island.
At the request of the members the management committee of the Loyal Valley Lodge met on Monday evening last to consider the advisability of securing more suitable accommodation for lodgo purposes. The result of their debberatioiis will be placed before tho members at an early date.
A meeting of those members (appointed at tho recent annual meeting) who are to assist the District Executive in revising the rules jroverning the lodge competitions will l)o held in tl» District Chambers next month, and lodges will bo supplied with a. copy of the new conditions at*the earliest opportunity thereafter. •
