(Received Match 9, at 5.5 p.m.) There was a splendid attendance for the concluding day of She V.R.C. autumn meeting though the weather was wintry, a biting wind prevailing. Flernington has had a record week, notwithstanding the following off on Thursday. Thi6 bears out the experience of all the other clubs, that iu spite of anti-gambling legislation tho number of racegoers is rapidly increasing. Tho Place Handicap was fought out by three Sydney horses, and Didus gained the verdict. Loch Amos failing to come up_ to expectations after Thursday's running. Booligal repeated Tuesday's performance by running of! while leading by a street. Deeble, the rider of Vanguard, broke his collar bono when the horse fell. Scrutineer was afterwards purchased by tho owner of Pinpress', and will go to South Australia in charge of Fred Burn for Easter. The historical Champion Stakes produoed, .as usual, a small field, and little interest was attracted owing to Piastre's previous performances. When Offa made tho pace tho samo tactics were repeated, and tho raco was never in doubt. The time was very slow for tho first mile, but pace was then put on owing to the time provision in tho conditions. Tho second long-distance race organised this season by. the Ponsonby Swimming Club took placo yesterday, the course being from tho end of tho Queen street wharf to Shelly Beach (Ponsonby), about a mile and a-quar-ter. The winner ■ was the limit swimmer, Miss D. Largo, who., had 20min start. H. Lunn (4mki 50sec) took second place. The tvio scratch men, Inkster and Kernot, made a great race for third place, and tho latter managed to .gain tfi3 verdict, by inches. Their time • was 34min 30seo.

RELIABILITY TRIALS.. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. Tho Canterbury Automobile Association's reliability trials to Kaikoura and back were concluded yesterday, but the official results will not be availablo till Monday. Three cars made a non-stop run-—F. Hubbard's Cadillac in the private owners' class, and M. Stevenson's Panhard and W. J. Scott's Vauxhall in the trades class. DUNEDIN AMATEUR BOATING CLUB.
