ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION.
(Pe?. United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 4. . Jeffrey Carmieliacl, ;i young man who is secretary to a benefit society, was arrested at Auckland yesterday on .1 cliargo that on August 23 he recoived £13 17s 6d on terms requirins him to account for Ihe same to Mrs Tureell and that he converted tho monev to his own use. The society for which Carmieliacl was secretary was in the habit of giving entertainments for charitable purposes, and on August 23 it gave an entertainment, for the benefit of Mrs Tureell, who recently lost her husband by an accident on the Glenclg. After the entertainment, which was patronised by a large number of peoplo and was expected lo produco something over £20, (hero was 110 account of the takings forthcoming from Carmichael, who was responsible, for tho issuo of tickets and for tho takings. Ho was asked for n statement of accounts, but ibis was not forthcoming, and ovcntually criminal proceedings were taken. Ho appeared before Mr Frazer, S.M., this morning and was remanded till Friday.
