ORPHANS' CLUB.

I Tho final mooting of tho Dunedin j Orphans' Club for the 1912 session was held last Tuesday evening in the club rooms, ! a largo gathering oi members being prei sent. This complete tho fifteenth year of the I'xistenco ot this popular c;ub, which has been the means of encouraging local talent -to a great extent. Several of tho members have been eminently successful at , the local competitions, and others have | gone further afield uml achieved success at j tho festivities held in other parts of the I dominion, and during ibe evening tho president, who occupied the chair, conveyed • to these members the club's congratulations.

I The President gave a list of enthusiastic members who intend, during the recess, to present the dub with tokens of their appreciation, Visitors from all over Iho world were present, and made manifest their pleasure at being uresent. It was with regret that the member.* sang the closing ode for the season, and expressed the hope that they would all meet again next, session.

The orchestra, with l)ro. Ilaggitt as conductor, bad to respond to encores on two occasions. Mention was made by the president that a concert would bo given by the club in tho near future, and all present signified their willingness to give it their cordial support. Tho toast of the club was proposed by his Worship the Mayor, who, in a happy and appropriate speech, congratulated the club, and wished it all possible success in tho future, iitid the president ably replied. Bro. Balk, in his characteristic manner, proposed the toast of "Tho Visitors," several of whom made feeling reference to the warmth of their reception. ,A splendid programme was presented during the evening, anil encores were repeatedly demanded. Altogether the meeting was a huge success, and all present expressed their extreme regret that it was the last for the session, and trusted that next session would bo even more enjoyable than the last on.

During the 1915 season it is the intention of the club to entertain a large number of Orphan Clubs from Auckland to the Bluff, and active preparations arc now being maim to this end.
