Danaus, Barley Water, Sandbuth. und Blairgotir were tiie smartest away. When tho field got fairly going Blairgotir took charge from Barley Water and Danaus. At the six furlong post Blairgour was three lengths ahead of Danaus. followed by Volsloano, Jolly Beggar, and Irishman. A furlong further on Popinjay moved into third place. Coming to the three furlong post jMairgour was still lending by three lengths from Jolly Beggar, and then came Btrley Water. Danaus, Gigandra, Popinjay." and Volsloano. Blairgour entered the straight well clear of Danaus, who was followed bv Gigandra, Then Gigandra dashed to 'the [ronti and looked all oyer a winner, but at the half distance .Hn'rf fell made a great rush and drew level. (Received Oct. 6, at 5.5 p.m.) Frank Wootton denies the statement thai he intends to retire from racing at tho end of the season. WINGATUT NOTES. Although n fairly largo number of horses were out at Wingatui on Saturday morning, a few were sent 'beyond half-pace work. This was no doubt duo to the fact that they had been running at some of the recent meetings, and were fairly forward in condition. The early morning lot consisted of Martinc, Slardancor, Gnome, Warstep, and Chrysotis, who were allotted useful work. Shortly after 8 o'clock Lupulito comfortably accounted for Pepkin over six furlongs in lmin 24sce. Thistledown cam© away from Kostroma and Oblong at the end of half n mile in 52 3-ssco. Oblong was not ridden out. and Kostroma has not been long in conimbsiqn. The MartianSiberia colt United Service finished in front of tho Mciwchikoir lilly St., Sop Ha. St. Aidan, Leading I.<uly, and Carpet Knight i-in five furlongs on the middlo grass, but the trio were casing up towards the finish. Odessa, who is looking an improved horse, cantered, and a similar tiisk was allotted to his stable companion Ceylon. Others out doing more or less lenient work included Mumura, Troon, Btieco, Marakenn, Jack Ashore, Coroniform, Foam Flake, Officious, and Thistledown,.whilst some of the overnight arrivals were on the walking list.
BOXING. ' HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. (Per United Press Association.) WESTPORT, October 5. , Tho profc<sioiiiil boxing' male]:- for tho heavy weight championship of Now Zealand took place at Millerton last night between Bert Lowe (of Gisborne, challenger) and .lim Mitchell (of Millerton, holder). The light went the full 15 rounds, and was won on points bv Lowo, who held the advantage practically all tho way, and narrowly missed knocking his opponent out 'in .the'.fifth- round, Mitchell being down for six seconds, and rising on, his feet only to fall over the ropes, the gong saving him that' round. Lowe split the knuckle bono of the second, finger of his right hand, Mitchell made a desperate, but short-lived attempt to win on a knock-out in the fourteenth round.
