WASHINGTON, August 22. (Received August 23, at 0.55 a.ni ; ) In the Senate Senator Penrose admitted receiving £5000 during 1904 from Mr Arclibold on behalf of the Standard Oil Company, but he declared that it was intended for tho Republican campaign fund. Mr Roosevelt knew of Mr Archbold s contribution. Senator Penrose alleged that Mr Roosevelt made a second demand for £30,000 from Mr Arclibold.
Senator Culberson seized the opportunity to press his bill forbidding campaign contributions by corjiorations. The debate wits adjourned. NAVAL APPROPRIATION BILL WASHINGTON, Ausust 22! (Received August 23, at 0.55 a.m.) The House of Representatives has adopted tho conference report on tlie Naval Appropriation Rill, providing for one battleship and a number of auxiliary cruisers and submarines. The total expenditure will be £25,000,000, The bill will now go to President Taft.
