At the Supreme Court, to-dav the hearing of tiic compensation cases in connection with tho West Coast, coach accident. at Paddy's llend on New Year's Day w.is continued. .Mr Alpers, with him •Mr SargAnt, appeared for Archibald Noil, who claimed £501, and for Henry James Hopgood and Alice Hopgood, who claimed £<!50; ami Mr Raymond, with him Mr Johnston, appeared' for .Martha Birlcv, «ho claimed £510 10s. Mr Hannan, with I 'm Mr Cassidy, appeared for the defendants, Messrs Moynilun and Co.
Legal argument having been heard, lie jury was addressed by counsel, and ids Honor summed up. The jury, after
a little over one hour's adjournment, returned the following answers to tlie issues submitted(l) Was the reuduet of tho driver Delancy careful and skilful prior to the breaking of the rein?— Yes. (2) After the breaking of the rein could the driver Delaney, by the exercise of proper care and skill, have averted the overturning of the coach No. (3) Has defendant satisfied you that the rein broke at the splice produced?— Yes. (4) Was tho Pitching of the splice cut, a.s alleged by defendant?— No. (5) Could such a cut, if it existed, have been olworved if proper and reasonable care had been shown in the circumstances?— Yes. (6) What damages, if any, (a) is plaintiff Neil entitle:! to':—£sol: (h) are the pla.int.ifis Mr and Mrs Hopgood entitled to?— £125; (c) is Mrs Birlcv entitled to?— £75.
After hearing argument his Honor postmined the question of costs.
