MISHAP TO A STEAMER

AUCKLAND, August 12. While steaming up the Patron Hiver yesterday morning tfio Xorthont Company's steamer Timiwha struck a submerged object and Killed on the bottom. IV Taniwha was bound from Auckland t/j Pacroa. She left on Saturday nijht with a large number of persons oil board. Tiie&o wore landed without discomfort. 'J he relief steamer Chelmsford, with two divers awl u quantity of salvage- gear, was despatched last evening. Telegrams from Captain Sullivan state lint a large hole hn* ken torn in the after end of the vessel on the starlward side. The cargo is damaged, but it is expected that the- vessel will be refloated without preot difTiculty after the divers hhvc patched the hull.
