PALMERSTON N., May 3. Tlio North Island Railway Appeal' Hoard sat at Palmcvston kwlay.'Di' M'Arlhur, S.M., presiding. Mr C. W. Ryan represented the first division and Mr P. Games tlia second. Mr Mount appeared for the department. Charles Murphy appealed against his dismissal for alleged insubordination. Murphy was told hy tJto coaching foreman to put a box on tho I'oxton train. He refused Iwcausc tho hox was not properly lalwllcd or cxccsscd, wlrich. was contrary to tho stationmaster's instructions. The coaching foreman considered tho hox to be properly labelled. Murphy denied tho correctness of tho evidence signed by him at the departmental inquiry. The Chairman said that Murphy must have been a lunatic to sign anything without reading it first. Judgment was reserved till tomorrow.
Walter Short appealed against his dismissal. Ho went from Wellington to Shannon on transfer. When asked by tho foreman to sign on ho refused to do so as requested. Tho foreman alleged Short was under tho influence of drink, and cheeky to the goods agent. Decision was reserved. "
Robert Leo apponJod against the reduction of his salary. Apoellant, a signalman, was reduced for going to sleep whilo on duty in tho signal box at Palmereton. The appeal was aismissed without calling on the department.
