To-day has been a busy one on the range, a*, in addition to completing thu preliminary stage of tho championship, tho C'liuiuliion Teams' .Mulch and Sorvico Match, and also an extra match at 1000 yards, havo been tired. Jiovcday, who was tying with Atkinson in the lend, put on 40 here, and shook of! his opponent, who onlv mntlo 44. Masefield, Milroy, am! lianks were close in the running. Clark (of Kangitikei) got a jiossible, despite tho serious talk about mirage, which certainly did mako the targets palpituto. Four men' just missed the jiossible. Tho Taranaki Match, of 1000 yards, the last in tho King's scries, was lired immediately afterwords, and again the scores of tho loading men were closely watched. Tho liffht was Hickory, and as the youthful Lovoday started in tho first match there was a crowd at tho board. The weight of the lead was evidently playing upon him, and ho only got 40. The word immediately went round that the shooting was dilfichlt, and all along tlio mound llie men broke up badly. Norman Wood (of Christchurch) planked on 49, finishing with 4 and 5. Soon after-, wards Roots, the 1911 champion, plunked on 50—a record for the range,—but. unfortunately, it was too late to bo any good to him, lurthor ilian to raise liini a few places in the aggregate. Atkinson, who was »hooting on (lie Soddon range, only got 36, which spill his chance. Masofiold got 47, which placed him next to Lovoday, but with a pip of six ]>oints. J. fSuy (of Ktivonga) put on 49. but it did not disturb ;ho aggregate, which left with a 10 to 1 chance for the Bell, for it is doubtful if any man ran ill New Zealand give liiin six points in 10 shots at 1000 yards. In the afternoon the Champions Teams' Match, at 303, SCO, and 600 yards, was lired. Twenty-two teams started, but owing' to a misunderstanding as to tho time limit at 300 yards, bv which they lost five •diets, the New Plymouth team retired. Other teams suffered severely also, losing up to live shots. At the ranpe tho scoring was very good, the victory renting with the Onaki team, who put up 4E4, Christchurch A loam being second with 476. The Opaki Rifle Club, therefore, wins tho handsome district challenge shield. The highest individual scorer was Chirnsido (of Karori CI, who put tip 101. Duthio (Christchurch) and Laking (Blenheim) both secured the coveted century. Tho Riflo Clubs' Championship, for teams of fivo men, was won !>;■ the Christchurch rifle team (Wood, Satldford, Duthic, Ilenrv. and Reynolds)' The United Service Mutch, for teams of 20 men. representing rifle clubs and Territorials, a( 303. 500. and 6CO yards, was fired in darkness, after the T«mis' Match concluded. The Territorials won by 54 points and are the holders of the Dawson Shield for the year. The scores were: Territorials 1715, Rifle Clubs 1681. Thr best individual score was Maaolicld (98).
