FIRE.
-♦-. A five-roomed wooden house situated in High street. Mosgiol, owned by Mrs Brown, Mosgiol. ami rented by Mr \ Johnston, billiard falcon keeper," was discovered to be on lire at about 5.15 yesterday morning by Mr s Johnston, who, with her three children, was tho solo occupant of tho.huikling at the time, Mr Johnston being abent m Dunedin. Mrs Johnston states that »he was awakoned by tho smoke in her bedroom, that on opening the door she found tho house full of smoke, and with her children, had to iwapo bv the window. Tho outbreak appears to have occurred in n room' used a s a sitting room, and in which no fire had been lit during the day. and its cause is therefore unaccountable. The building was totallv dostrove*!, only an iron bedstead, a duchesse table, and a washstand being saved. The house was insured in the Royal Exchange office for £150. and ihe furniture and effects in the Victoria etnee for £160.' It is estimated that the house was under-insured by £50 and the furniture by £55.
