FURTHER CONGRATULATIONS,

Congratulations woro lavished' on thef Otago Daily Times yesterday Irom all parts of tho provincial district, and from othnr portions of New Zealand upon tho attainment of its jubilee, and upon the manner ot its colebraticn of the anniversary. Tkwi who .tfj responsible for tho conduct of tho Daily Times would lie loss than human if they did not warmly appreciate tho expressions of noodwill that have boeu eo Itcoly tendered to tho papor. It is impossible for us to attempt to reproduce tho kindly terms in which citizens of Duncdin of all shades of thought yesterday convoyed their felicitation* to tho Daily Times, awl wo can only soloet from tho nic-MRes fiom all quarters that have reached us a few that may bo taken as typical :—

Mr P. Sclig, chairman of tho Newspaper Proprietors' Association of Now //oaland: "Newspaper Proprietors' Association dcbiro to congratulate you on attaining jubilee •May tho Times long maintain tho honourable position it has won among tho journals of tho Domn-ionl"

Colonel Snivth, commanding tho Otago Military' District: "Allow mo on behalf of tho old Volunteer and present Territorial Forco .-f Otago to offer tho heartiest congratulations to tbo Otago Daily Times on this, its fiftieth anniversary, and to take this opportunity of complimenting it on the vigilunco of its 'Sentry.'"' , Mr E. C. Huio, editor of tho Evening Nows. Ghristehurohi-'Ncthing gives mo greater plcasuro thon tho opportunity of felicitating you and your staff on tho occaBion of tho jubileo of tho Otago Daily Times. From 1699 to 1906 I was a member of the Times staff, and I have tho plcasankst recollections of my association ,with tho paper. I havo alwoys held tho opinion that no Now Zealand paper catow more fully for Iho requirements of its readers titan the Otogo Daily Times does, and I nm sure that this has contributed in no small degree to the splendid success which hns been achiovod in tho past 50 years." The Press, Christchurch: "Wo congratulate our contcmoorary, the Otago Daily Times, on attaining its fiftieth anniversary. It is a few months younger than the Press, but enjoys tho distinction of boing tho first daily paper published in New Zealand. It has the honour of hiving.irI oduord Sir Julius Vogel to politics, and) Mr B. L. Farjeon to tun world of literature. Tlio former was editor of tho journal, and Mr Farjeon was a compositor on the paper, and hitrself set up tho typo of Mmo of his first novels. Tho Otago Dailv Times has dono much to uphold tho high reputation cf the New Zealand press for enterprise, sanity of judgment, ana honourable conduct. It has had its ups and downs, like most Ncjr Zealand journals, and mainly owe* it present powerful and prosperous rendition to_ its. monaging director, Mr (leorgo Fcnwick, who for manv years occupied tho cditcrial chair. Both Mr Fcnwick nnd Mr J. Hutchison, tho present able editor, will, we feol sure, receive many hearty and well-deserved congratulations on thi« ausoiciotis roension."

The Oarnaru Mai!: "Tho jubilee number of the Otago Daily Times camo to hand this morning. It is a marvellous production. Tho congratulatory mcsfcgos occupy nctrly five full-size panes, and they nro from near and far. Commencing with a m««ago from the King stating that hia Majesty 'is interested and glad to hear that tho .Otago Daily Times will complete tho 50th year of its existence, on the 16th of November next,' tho felicitations range from Now Zealand Governors past and presont to diplomatists, distinguished citizens of tho world, prominent men in commercial, professional, clerical, and journnlistio circles everywhere. The production is, in this respect, the best of its kind we have seen, and bears cvldenco of tho master mind and guiding hand of Mr George Fenwick who has direct*:! tho dostini'-s oi tho purer for r period of 35 years. We wero behind tho scenes when he and tho late Mr Geo. M'Cullagh iiecd purchased tho property. '.TVk> wero the dovs of small th'njrs. The Times was then in its nonage, and its development so rapidly to its present dimensions and cxcollenc© of commercial and social quality was not anticipated by even tho mast experienced journalists. Tho Times progrereed so rapidly notwithstanding tho ret-back which Ota'go has suffered for years. To-day's number will bo cherished by those who participated in tho earliest sett'enient of tho province, and who remember tho paper when it was only of sufficient size to wrap up a pound.of butter; but it will also be appreciated, and should bo preserved, as an evidence of tho l»-ogre«s of colon'.'ntion bv the generation of native-born New -Zoalanders—the new order which has sprung from the old. Wo suggest to the proprietary, however, that tlte illustrations should l» printed on a sheet of superior paper, 90 that they might be framed, as they would then conctituto a perpetual memento of tho history of tho paper and of Otago."

CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE CITY COUNCIL.

Among the many good things they enjoyed was having a fair prnss throughout tho Dominion, and in Dunedin thoy considered themselves especially fortunato in this respM. Tho motion was carried unanimously airiid applause.
