DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the ' Duncdin Fire Board was.held in the botird room yesterday afternoon, the following members being present .•—Messrs T> Chalmer (chairman], W. I. Bolam, H. D. Stronach, J, Arkle, and A. J. Sullivan. ' . .''-., i'. i.',Leave of absence- was granted to Mr D. Murray till.the 3kt of Deceiriber. ' Th« Superintendent reported that 13 calls were received 'ddring , the, irjoMh!. Of these three were fake alarms due to the May-Oatway apparatufl, and the.othefa were all chimney tires or incipient out--breaks.—The report was received. '.;■•.■■' ,11ie Committee reported that a resident auxiliary fireman had been ap- ' pointed, on three months' probation, and that nine auxiliary firemen for theatre ■ duty had been appointed, also on three months' probation. Two auxiliary .fire-, men had completed their period of probation, and had been appointed to the permanent.staff. It also reported, that two members of the permanent staff had resigned, while one was. dismissed fo'rdisobedience of ordem and absenting himself without'leave.. Accounts to the amount of £1096 17a 2d, .including filial payments to the contractor and architect for the new station, had been passed for ' payment, and the net credit balance stood at £1722 ,10s.—The report was adopted. The Chairman brought tip the matter of the board's liability to pay mortgage tax. He thought that trader section 14,' subsection 2, of the' Land and Income Assessment Tax the board was exempt;— A member expressed the opinion that it would have to pay.—lt was resolved that the chairman. should take legal advice upon the matter if he should consider it necessary. , ' ' ' ;.'•
