(Received July 3, at 9.40 p.m.) In giving evidence to-day before the commission which is inquiring into the shortage of labour, Mr Cobte, a manufacturing jeweller, stated that he had refused ciders aggregating £1000 weekly owing to his inability to obtain sufficient labour. Recently he sent an order to England for 40 men. The demand for engagement and wedding iings was verv brisk at present. l
