July . 2.—Sailed: Brisbane, for New Zealand. THE DIRECT STEAMERS. LONDON, July 1.-Arrived: Whakatane, from Auckland. MONTEVIDEO, July 1. - Arrived: Opawa, from Tokoinaru Bay Tlie Wimmera, from, Sydney, via Auckland and East Coast ports, reached Dunedin at 10 a.m. yesterday, and was berthed at the Lower Jetty street whaj-f. She had an exceptionally _ stormy passage across from Sydney,. particulars of which have already been published in telegraphic despatches. She left Sydney at 6 p.m. on the 21st June, and arrived at Auckland at 4 a.m. on the 26th, leaving next day and calling at tho usual coastal ports, and arriving as above. On the run down the coast she experienced strong to moderate southerly winds and eea. The steel screw steamer John Hadie, with the balance of a cargo of case oil from Philadelphia, arrived at the Victoria wharf about 2 p.m, yesterday. Sho comes to tho agency of Messrs Goliin and Co., and has made calls at Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, putting out part of her cargo at each port. Her gross tonnage is 4372 tors, and sho is a substantial-looking beat of the tramp class. - '• The Corimra. which left Dunedin last evening on her usual northern time-table run, will, on her return trip, escort tho Tukapuna to Port Chalmers for repairs. .The auxiliary schooner Huanui left Dunedin on Saturday morning, and came to anchor at Carey's Bay, where she is -waiting a favourable wind to get away to tho Camptell Islands with stores for the whaling party. Tho Mamari left Lyttelton early on Saturday morning to put out the balance of her Home cargo. The Waitemata came up to town from Port yesterday morning to put out the remainder of her Newcastle coal. The Warrimoo arrived at tho cross wharf about 7.30 a.m. on Saturday, She left Sydney at 2 p.ni. last Saturday, and was four days on the passage across the Tasman Sea. _ From Monday morning till arrival at Wellington on Wednesday afternoon strong head winds and heavy seas were encountered. She left Port yesterday afternoon, after tho arrival of tho 2.30 train from town, for Bluff, Hobart, aird Melbourne. Tho Inveroargill arrived from .Stewart Island on Saturday night, and tho' Kotare left the same evening for the same port. Mr Sherrington, chief officer of the Mimiro, is now acting master, owing to Captain U'Quecn going ashore at Canetown through illness. The Mimiro left New York on April 18, arrived at Melbourne on Juno 12, and is to leave Sydney tomorrow for Auckland and southern ports. The Hauroto is to be employed in the coal trade for a few trips, and will load coal at Westport this week for Wellington. The Te Anau will leave Port to-day for Wellington to act as a relieving boat while some of the company's northern and West Coast steamers undergo overhaul. CaptamCollins is relieving Captain Vint, of the Waitomata, who conies ashore for one trip. The steamer Putiki, which arrived off Westport bar early last week, was unable to get in for two or three days,' and, having only 24 tons of bunker coal left, she endeavoured to get back to Nelson. All the wooden fittings'and the wood off the after hatch had to bo burned for fuel.
