OTAGO CENTRE.
A special meeting of tho Otago Centro of tli-s New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, hold lust' evening, was attended by the President (Mr E. Roscvear), Messrs Thompson, Brcon, A. Melville, A, It. Barclay, Kerens, Nainsford, Divers, and tho lion, secretary (Mr List). A written reo.uest, from tho Caversham Harriers to receive a deputation from that l»dy regarding the New Zealand Crosscountry Championships at Auckland was complied with, and Messrs Wostwood, Mercer, and Chambers represented the views cf the club on the matter. Tho grounds of the application were that the event was purely a harrier race, ond the committee considered. that the Duncdin harrier clubs should hnvo received consideration ; fh'at the Ctago Centre was instrumental in having the championship inaugurated by the New Zealand Council, and that Otago, boinig at present tho champion team, j>,n opportunity should bo afforded a team to defend the title. While it was truo that the centre was not in ■a financial position to send a. team, it was urged that tho members of the ya'rious harrier clubs could sukcribo the amount necessary to finance a team. After somo discussion of a conversational nature, Mr Divers moved, and Mr A. Melvillo seconded:—" That tho resolution passed at tho last ordinary meeting of the centre, that Otago Centra should not be represented at the Cross-country Cliampionsltf]) at Auckland on August 12, bo refcinded." This motion, on beir.g put to the meeting, was lost, the Chairman explaining that he was quite certai.n those who voted against it were as anxious as these who supported it to fend a team.
It was then re.-olvrd unanimously, on the motion of Mr List, seconded by Mr Murray:—"That subscription lists bo circulated with a view to tending a team to Auckland, and that the mutter bi> considered at the next monthly meeting of the centre." Subscription lists wore then handed to each member present, with the object of defraying the expenses if a team is sent,
