RIFLE RECORDS EXTRAORDINARY. Sometimes groat events are attended by very lhtlo fufis. Some New Zealanders may have already forgotten that at the Trentliam rifle meeting in 1909 marksmen of New Zealand beat the world! In view of so much talk about defence thai is a- very interesting fact. There wore no fewer than 245 possibles. Two world's records and one Now Zealand record 1 were broken. It was a perfectly astonishing; performance throughout. Results achieved at Bislcy with tho famous Palma .303 cartridgo were eclipsed. To this day tho records of the great Trentliam meeting remain unbroken. And yet the New Zealand marksmen were not using 'Palma cartridges. They were then using—as they are still—tho nowfamous .303 Mark VI military regulation cartridges, manufactured m tho Dominion bv the Colonial Ammunition Company. Nearly 150,000 rounds were fired, and the executive officer of the Now Zealand Rifle '\ssoeiation reported that there liad not I boon a oinglo complaint. Note.—lso,ooo Now Zealand cartridges, and not one defective ! All this counts as a veritable and striking triumph for a flourishing New Zealand industry. Anyone acquainted with tho triekincss of ordinary ammunition and tho circumstances of great riflo meetings knows flint it is a marvellous thing to havo no duffer among 150,000 cartridges.
