LONDON, April 4. Sir E. Shackleton (has appealed for financial assistance for Dr Mawson's expedition. CAPTAIN AMUNDSEN'S EXPEDITION. REASON FOR SECRECY. • STOCKHOLM, April 5. (Received April 5, at 10.45 p.m.) Captain Amundeen. has written to the committee of the Fram expedition apologising for not communicating his changed plans. His reason for secrecy was his .apprehension lest tl;e committee should endeavour to dissnadc him. The motive for the change was the hope af the discovery of the South Pole and- to induce his countrymen to accord sufficient financial support for a dash for the North Pole.
