AMUSEMENTS.
ALIIAMBRA THEATRE. Patrons-of tho Alhambra Theatre appear to bo well pleased with tho widely diversified programme of vaudeville item? being presented to them at this popular house of entertainment, and recalls aro hearty and numerous. Tho wonderful turns of tho Indian magician Hassan must be seen to realise tlio. ability of this porformor to mystify tho atidicnce, while the turn of the Rhodcsburya also proves most popular. Then thero aro Dehvyu and Tye, tho two Rosebuds, George Vanvcen, Victor Myors, and tho others, who all work hard, and to excellent purpose, to please.
HAYWARD'S PICTURES. Tho fine programme of cinematographic pictures shown during tho past week at tho Burns Hall made their final appearance last evening, when thcro was a.n excellent house. To-nieht a specially strong series of films will bo thrown on tho screen, tho dramatic element being a strong feature. "Ja.no and the Stranger" is a realistio portrayal of lovo and duty, while "Abovo the Clouds" is also a pieturo of deep interest. "Italian Naval Manoeuvres," "Western Woman's Way," "On tho River Loing" (Franco), r 'Ricc Harvest, Ja.pan-," are other films to bo shown, wliilo tho humorous pictures aro made up of "Clothos Make the Man," "Oti tho Doorstep," "Valet's Vindication," audi tho evergreen Calino, who is on this oocasion depicted as in lovo.

"THE GONDOLIERS." In view of tho production on April 3 ard tlie nro following nights by tho Duncdin Operatic and' Musical Society, it may bo well to remind readers that the bax ofßco mil bo open at the Dresden for subscribing members on Monday next, and on .Tuesday for tho gemwal public. "The Gondoliers," in which the society makes its bow •••> Di ;l Dunodin public, transports tlte audicnco to the city known as the " Bride of tho Adriatic," and they aro shown the gondolas flitting along its watery streets. It is an opera that has charmed all who hove witnessed it. No author has vet approached Gilbert in the concretion of whimsical incongruities, outlandish burlesque of modern manners, and l outrageous violation of the probabilities of life, characterised throughout, with a humour that ia never vulgar and a dialogue that is never tediously absurd. In all those peculiarities of the writer of "The Mikado" end "Patience," t.ho Gondoh'en" abo'-nd-. Sir Arthur' Sullivan's na.me has long bo«n a hoicehokl word with all the Enclifh-speoki-trg races, and in the " Gondoliers" ho has interpreted his collaborateur's libretto in a way that leaves nothing to bo desired.
