TEE HOSPITAL WARDS. Tiffi Hospital and Charitable Aid Board adopted at its meeting last night a resolution to the cffect ,that the first wards erected by it in the Hospital grounds should provide for the children's block being solely used for - the purpose for wliich it was originally built. The principle of this decision will. command general approval. The erection of the Victoria Ward, as a local commemoration of the diamond' jubilee of Queen Victoria, was unquestionably designed, in the first instance, exclusively to provide accommodation for the oHldren. who should be patients in the Hospital. The Trustees at that time, however, thought fit to assent to a modification of this plan. Through the instrumentality of Dr Batchelor a Considerable sum of money had been subscribed with the object tiat it should be applied to the provision of accommodation for the treatment of special diseases of women, and the Trustees accepted this sum upon the trademstanding that a .portion of the new children's ward should be constituted a department for tlie reception cf these special casea. The arrangement may not now be regarded as a very suitable one. But at the time at which it was made no exception was taken to it, although it was common knowledge that this arrangement was entered into. In all the circumstances it is matter for satisfaction "that the Board refrained from recording an opinion which might ba open to the construction that it reflected upon the conduct of the Trustees who were in office a good many years ago.
