PROFESSOR SALMOND'S PAMPHLET.

Sin,—l have only just now had tho opportunity of reading Profossor Salmond's 'rcma.rka.blo pamphlet, and 1 should like to ask tho author, through you, a few questions.

1. On page 13 the author quotes Jesus. as saying: "I am the vine, the sap which is in Mo will become in you the wine of life." The quotation marks are given by the author. Will he plenso say where the words may be found , ' I cannot Ond thorn in either authorised or revised versions.

2. On page 27 the author says: "Mr Gladstone lells us that he drank good wine and bcor every day, and without them he was unable to moot the heavy demands made on his strength." Will the professor say where these words of Mr Gladstone's may be found?

3. On page 64 the author quotes Shadwell's book " Drink, Temporonoa, and Legislation, ,, chap. ii. Will the professor plrase say who are the publishers, or where tho book may.be obtained? I have not heard of this author.

4. On page 66 the' author states tho "emotional" case for prohibition, and odds: "This protest is only the argument for prohibition stated anew in a form which converts it into what Stevenson calls ' a brutal iissnult upon the feelings.' " Will the author please say where Mr R. L. Stevenson uses this expression, and in what connection?—l am, etc., llanfurly, March 21. D. G.
