LATJ2TCESTON, March 22.

The annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Manufacturers has opened here. Mr Joshua, in tllo course of his presidential address, referring to tho referenda, said tho belief that unification would aggrandise the, national Parliament and deprive the State Parliaments of much of their power was a solemn pomposity.

The report expressed dissatisfaction with the so-called protective tariff, which did not effectively protect Australian industries, and favoured an adjustment of the tariff, and that it be taken out of political control.
