AUCKLAND, March 22.
AL the, Police Court this morning Jean Carter, proprietDrnss of " The Mans.'ons," one of the largest boardi'iig-hoires in Auckland, was charged on two informations with selling liquor without a beers;. It was admitted tint boarders were supplied with liquor by Mrs Carter, for which they paid «sh. Two con-tabhs were so supplied, and this \\/s followed hy a police raid, when 195 bottles of beer and stout and a quantity of wine were found on the premises. It was admitted that the p:opr.'e'r:-6 was a respfcteblc women, and the houre well conducted; and it was pleaded that there were none of the usual elements of tlv grig-selling. But Mr Cut'cn. S.M.. held that it h d been a very pa'pable breach of th? hw. and imposed' the maximum penally of £50 on one charge. He dismissed Die Ktond charge, and ordered the liquor Eeizc/i to be destroyed.
