Our Wellington correspondent reports tho death of Mr George Bissct, editor of Government publications, which occurred yesterday, alter a long and painful illness. He was 60 years of age. About four years ago he sobered his connection with the Canterbury Times, and, going to Wellington, was appointed editor of publications ifsucd by tho Department of Agriculture. When t.he department was reorganised ho assumed tho position of editor of Government publications. He leaves a grown-up family of one son and throe daughters. Tho announcement of (ho death of Mrs Hay, wife of the Rev. P. S. Hay, of Duntroon, which took place on Friday Inst, was received with deep regret by a large circle of friends. With her husband, the deceased lady arrived in Duntroon early in 1881, when the former was inducted into tho charge of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Waitaki. Her removal, after a somewhat trying illness, though not unexpected, leaves a blank in the life of the. community that will bo very difficult to fill. Tho deceased lady was of a singularly bright, and active disposition. Throughout her life in Duntroon she showed a singleminded devotion to the oauso of religion, and it is largely due to her efforts that the present substantial church buildings owe their existence. By her sympathy in tho trials and sorrows of others Mrs Hay won ■for herself a warm place in tho hearts of the people, while the love and kindly interest she always showed towards the children cause her to bo mourned • by young and old alike. Very widespread sympathy will be extended to Mr and Miss May in their bereavement.
