Gibbs, -who for a. number of years has occupied a position in the telegraphic engineer's office, ]>unedin, was (says the Mail) met at the Oamaru Railway Station on Saturday by tho local construction and maintenance linemen and presented with three'pieces of silver, to mark the staff's appreciation, of his promotion to a respon*eible position in Wellington, whither he was proobading. Mr Gibte will fill the position of acting chief electrician at Wellington, during Mr Buekiey"s absence. A pleasant ceremony took place on Wedl.esdny at Tarara School, wneri Mr G. A. Tho same evening, his hostess (Ml 3 White), Forndalo Park House, gave him a royal sendK>ff, which took the form of a. musical evening. The following evening some wellwishers met and presented him witii a gold sovereign case and a gold mounted greenstone pendant; and, later on in the evening, ho was met by the members of the Ratanui church ohorr' in the vestry and presented with a haudsome writing (teak, suitably inscribed, as a tangible appreciation of his services as organist and choirmaster to the 'church. Mr Crocket, tho pastor, in making the presentation, epoke in laudatory terms of Mr Blnckwocd's sterling worth, and voiced the feelings of t8» people when ho menfeorted the loss the district wonld sustain at his departure'.
