Mr J. A. M'Cullough, workers' representative on the Arbitration Court, reached DunccHn by Iho soeontl express last evening.
An Invercarjrill message states thaf Mr David Hope, chief ranger of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Socioty, and at one time curator of the Auckland Society, was, at a special meeting last night, appointed to the curatorship of the Southland Acclimatisation Society's Mataura hatcheries from 17 applicants.
At a social held in the Tabernacle Inst night Miss Olive Morton, who has officiated as church organist, for over 10 years, was presented by the church members with an appropriately-engraved coffeo service. Mr W. J. Hastie, in extending the gift, mentioned that Miss Morton had iiovcr failed to be in her place as organist, and had carried out her arduous duties to the best of her ability, with credit to herself, and to the entire appreciation of the church momibers. She was not about to leave the church, but simply to change her name. The rest of tho evening wae spent in congratulatory speech-making, solo singing, and reciting, and the consumption of delicacies kindly provided by the ladies of the church.
Tho Cincinnati Inquirer reports that Mr Stanley Bowmar, formerly of the staff of the Otago Daily Times and the New Zealand Times, who has been travelling with Mr Joseph Fels as his secretary, will remain in Cincinnati and act in that capacity fc Daniel Kiefcr, who is chairman of tho Fols Fund Commission in the United States. Mt Fols is a wealthy soap-maker who is promulgating the Henry George theory of land taxation.
Miss M. E. Dennchy, who has been matron of the Duredin Prison for some six years and a-half, is about to retire on three months' leave of absence and a. pension. Miss Donnchy has done good eorvice in the Prisons Department, having been connected with tho gaols at Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton before, coming to Duncdin. ' Her prematura retirement is due to the fact that the department has deckled to close the female department of tho Duncdin Gaol.
