MAYOB v. ENGINEER

(Per United Pbess Association.) GISBORNE, February 9. Proceedings at the Borough Council :i!ceting last night were of a lively nature, the meeting extending until 2.30 a.m. Tho Mayor complained of the work not being carried out in a proper manner, and councillors defended the local engineer. After discussion, which was ;it times acrimonious, on a motion or censure against His Mayor, the following amendment was curried by live to one:—"That this council aliii'in their continued faith in the ability of the engineer, and that they do not desire to hear any further criticisms o!' the engineer by the Mayor."
