" Engineman."—(l) Tho holder of a marine ongine-drivor's certificate cannot take charge of a lund engine or boiler, but ho may, by application to the Chief Inspector of Machinery, Wellington, obtain a certificate of the appropriate class, without, examination, on proof of not less than 12 months' service in charge of an ongine, either on land or afloat, with cylinders of fe area, proscribed for such class. (2) A river engineer's certificate- is deemed equivalent to a second cfcationary enginedriver's certificate, and Uμ holdor thereof oan take charge of any land ongine (except a winding engine) with cylindors not exceeding 200 circular inches, and of its boilers, or of any boiler to which no machinery is attached.
