THE PATEA STRIKE,
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
A FRUITLESS CONFERENCE,
(Pes United Tress Association.) WELLINGTON, January 27. A donation of £50 by the Wellington Wharf Union the support of the wives and families of the Pa-tea waterside workers now on strike has been supplemented by the sum of £25 given by the Lyttelton Wharf Labourers' Union. According to an officer of the local union there is some feeling in. reppird to the discharging and loading of cargo at Patea by crews and officers of tho shipping companies affected, who are members of other unions, and there is a proposal to hold a conference between these unions with a view to some definite stand being taken. A conference held in Wellington between the representatives of the shipping companies concerned in the strike and the waterside workers proved abortive.
