ANNUAL MEETING. (Pee United Press Association , .) HOKITIKA, January 4. The session of the Educational Institute was resumed this morning, remits dealing with superannuation being under discussion. It was agreed that teachers who failed to enter as original members should still be admitted upon equitable terms, and that an allowance should be paid from tlie time that their services ceaee.

Tho agitation for the establishment of a Dominion scheme of promotion was advanced by the unanimous adoption of the following resolutions: —

That this institute reaffirm its request for legislation providing for the promotion of teachers on a definite plan. That this institute, believing that the scheme approved in Auckland in 1908 sets forth on page 40 of the annual report, 1908, the true principals (A to L) upon which any equitable system of promotion must be based, again request the Minister of Education to give effect to those principles by introducing the necessary legislation this year. That the incoming executive be ex-

prefsly instructed to make every possible effort to secure the passage of legislation necessary to bring into effect a Dominion scheme of promotion. The following remits were also passed: That owing to the important nature of tho work the salaries ot secondary assistants in district high schools should be increased. That in cases whore the attendance for two years has been such as to cause a reduction in salary, teachers suffering such should have a prior claim to appointment to vacancies such as will reinstate '.them in tilieir former salary grade. That the Education Act be amended so as to provide that teachers, when transferred to a, lower grade of /position, receive the maximum salary of that grade. That the Education Department be asked to formulate a regulation as to sick leave granted t-eachere, taking into consideration the length of service.
