WELLINGTON FATAL FIRE.

IDENTIFICATION OF VICTIM

WELLINGTON, January 4. This morning the police found a notebook and cash amounting to £1 2s o±d, which belonged to the man Patrick Meban, who was burnt to death in the firo at the WellesJey boarding-house, Johnston street, on Tuesday morning. The book was iyin-g near the head of Meban's bed. There was also an envelope, which indicated that a letter had been posted' to the deceased from Camlough, Ireland, on 3rd July, 1909, addressed to "MrPatrick Meban, care Mr J. Craig, Riversdale, Ahaura, Greymouth." This letter bore the mark o£ the Greymouth Post Office, doted 19th August last. Inside the notebook was also a card bearing the name "T. A. Tennant." On the° first page of the notebook were written the words " Patrick Meban, Durmmaugh, Camlough, County Antrim, Ireland."' Another address was that of David Meban (presumably deceased's brother), 5.6. Moriau, care Mr Robertson, West Miles street, Glasgow. The addresses of several persons in Invercargill were also given, these having apparently been writton by tho addressees. There was an entry "Andrew M'Clintock, Lyell Bay, Maranui, N.Z.," and another read, "T. M'Killop, care Mrs O'HaJloran, 26 Higli street, Greymouth." The body has been definitely identified by Mr M'Clintock, of Maranui, as that of Patrick Meban. was only 21 years or age, and came 'from Diimmaugh, Ciunlough, Ire hind, where he went to school with M'Clintock, in whose company he was on Sunday.

Jackson, the lessee of the premises destroyed, had his fittings and effects insured in the Yorkshire office for £390, and Mrs Jackson had her personal pro&Z Mured in the same office for £100,
