KAFFIR MUTINY

THE CAUSE EXPLAINED,

Prui Aijociatiaa—Bt Telegraph—Copyright, LONDON, January 3. (Received Jan. 4, at 0.45 a.m.)

Sir E. Grey, in a letter to the AntiSlavery and Aborigines Protection Society, states that the Wilhelnistal Kaffir mutiny on October 6 was due to a deduction of pay and complaints as to bad food. The strike was embittered by an attempt to prevent the strikers from obtaining provisions from the railway company without the sanction of the civil authorities, which called out troops. This culminated in an affray. The German Government and tho company were doing their utmost to remedy the conditions, and a special magistrate had been appointed to protect the British and the natives.
