AMERICAN REPUBLICS
A BENEFICIAL PLEDGE. . Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 31. (Received August 51, at' 9 p.m.) The Times, commenting on peace in Nicaragua, dwells on the importance of the \Vashington Conventions, whereby the Central American republics, are pledged to non-interference in their neighbours' internal troubles. Formerly the inevitable Bequel to disturbances in one State was the embroilment of all.
Tlw paper adds that Mr Knox's policy has triumphed, and the disturbances have been confined to Nicaraguan bounds by a strong display of force.
