BALMACEWEN LAWN TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual mooting of tho Balmaccwen Lawn Tennis C2ub was held Jnat night in tho Maori Hill Council Chambers, and was attended by about 20 members. Tho'vicepresident of tiito club (Mr S. N. Brown) occupied the chair. The annual-report stated the, membership of tho o!ub stcod at a total of 78, of -whom 31 aro gentlemen and 42 ladies, with fivo ' associate members. During tho. year it was again deemed advisable to restrict ,tlio number of lady members, owing to tho want of another court, but for tho present there seems no likelihood of another court being available. At tho beginning of tho season Mr. S. N. Brown, sen.'(presidents t-ic section), presented thb club.with two gold badge for competition among members iitidcff conditioiv, similar to thoso'governing tho Martin medals ooDipetition amoag l tho fcowleis. Ilic - committee, called 'tho badges tho Brown badges. Some very interestmgj matches wero tho outcoono of this competition, and the"oommittee recommended the incoming committee to get'thu comptition under way early next ieason, M it afforded members • a. 1 good . opportunity of taking part ir. tournament pday; rixs dub toui-namento were only fairly well patroir.scd, and alter some clcso contests tho winners of tho various eventa turned out as follow: -Ladies' Doubles, Misses Burt and Burton; Combined Doubles, Miss b . ?! . Broivn ' Tho final of-tho Men s Double.-, still remains to bo played: Two teams wero entered for thb, Associations Banner Competition—one A and ono B. The A team scoured seoond piaco this year. As regards tho B team, this was the first year it had taken part in this grade, and the club had no reason to bo disappointed wiilh tho place it occupied. At the beginning of the season No. 3 court Has dressed and asphalted at tho sido and bottom, end. 'llio <onimittee-regretted .that the result was not so satisfactory as could niavo neen desired. The committee recorded with regret the death of Miss Annio otewart. one of" tho club's most enthusiastic members. On behalf of tho olub thb committee had tendered its sympathy to , 13 .' bereaved family. Tho committee i.csiied to thank Mr Thomson (the caretaker) for hi.s services,.the. press, and the JjadKo Committee, which had always been most, obliging and energetic in assisting to carry out fcno work of the social functions. in moving the adoption of the report, the Chairman congratulated the club on tho pas. season's play and the marked improvement shown In- members, not only . ; n'tho mterelub matches, but'also in the tournament games. Tho .report was adopted un&mmonsly. . , Before taking nominations foir tho position of vice-president of tho club, Mr Bcovvii po mK d out that ho had occupied that position for four years, and at present he was president of the general club. As it waji laid down : n the rules that tho president of the general blub' shall be erected from tho vice-presidents of tho sections, Ut Brown remarked that by re-elect-ing their vice-presidents they were restricting the competition for the honour of beintr president tho general club. The members prpont, however, were evidently quite satisfied with Mr Brown's work'for the club, and he was unanimously, ro-elected vieo-presidont,
The other officers were appointed as follows: Committee—Messrs Dalgicish, S' N Brown, iun., M'Korrow, and Wcllsted (af re-elected); secretary, Mr R. S. Brown; delf gates to tho Otago Lawn. Tennis Associs tjon, Messrs S. N. Brown, jun., and AVeIJ stcd; -Match Committee, -Messrs M'Kerro-v H E. S. and S. N. Brown, jun.
