Notes by Bulger. The New Zealand championship tournament commences at Shirley on Monday next. Diinediu, as a rule, is woll ropresented at the Christcburch tournament, but in, point of numbers their quota for this meeting will be small. Wo will, however, bo worthily represented, as Hamilton Smith (ex Now Zealand .champion), Basil Smith (Otago Club champion), ■ J. Forbes (St Clair Club champion), ,E. J. Denny, J. R. Park, T. A. Hunter, and R. J. Smith arc those I have heard of so far. who intend making tho trip. The Smiths always play well at Sim-Joy, toshould maJce a good showing in tho championship events, I have not forgotten Porbes's great game with the redoubtable Duncan at Auckland, last year,. when: he was only beaten 2 and 1, after losing t'ho first five holes. Ho is a great match player, and should be. woll ud this year.
