Tuesday, August 30. ' .(Before MrH. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) Drunkenness. — John I'inlnyson was brought up on remand on a chargo of helpless drunkenness. The enso had been remanded for a week to allow tho man to undergo medical treatment. Ho was convicted and ordered to pav medical expenses, £1 la 6d, in default seven days' imprisonment. Drunkonncs" and Theft. —' William AlGrcgor, a first offender, was charged with drunkenness and with stealing two baskets, valued at 6s, the property of Cheo louiig.-Tho ovidenoo showed that while under the influence of drink the accused lad taken tho baskets from a shop in the Aroade. Ho afterwards took them back and offered to pay for them.—Tho accused admitted having l been drunk, but said ho did not romombcr taking tho baskets.—He waa lined 5s for drunkenness, in default 24 .hours' imprisonment; and for (lie theft was lined 10s, and witnesses' expenses (ss), in default seven days' .imprisonment. Theft of Sacks—Charles Kingstono pleaded "Guilty" to. tho theft of 150 sacks, of the value of £3 2s 6d, tho propcrty of Archibald T. lluthcrford.-Detcc-t'lvo Ward stated that the accused had I>mii employed on Rutherford's farm in the Kaikorai Valky until August 21, when he had been discharged for drunkenness. The arrears amounted to £3 6s. The applicant had been in' tho Hospital, previous to which lio had kept tho order up to date—Tho arrears wero remitted up to August 27 for tiio.full amount, £3 6s. Thomas Earnshaw wjis charged with disobeying an order for the. maintenance of liis throe children.—Tho case was further adjourned in order to allow liini an opportunity of meeting his liability.
