ALBION CRICKET CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. We fako the following from tho forty.eighth annual report of tho Albion Cricket! Club:— " The past season has been a record ono in many respects, and- tho committee heartily congratulates the members upon • ono of tho most successful seasons experienced in tha history of tho club. The chief factors in tlio succc.33 of the season, may bo attributed to good generalship and assiduous practice. The winter practices liavo no doubt been'instrumental in bringing to tho front many of tlift young players of the club. Tho very faot of six trophies being secured by 'winter practice' members fully demonstrates the undoubted benefit derived from this source. Your-'"; committee foci*, that it cannot sufficiently ' express its appreciation of Mr Ritchie, who : again generously accorded tho club Ilia • grain storo for winter practice. TOio ■: Senior Eleven won tho oliampionship,..-•'. winning six .matches out of the saveni ■• played. This eJovont also won tho 0.C.A., .' trophy. The fact that tho Senior Elovon ■ included a number of last year's juniors augurs well for the. club's future success. S. Hiddlestono won tho batting trophy with an averago of J2.S. T. M'Farlane wag? a- dose second with 27,8, while nil tlio other ,; regular members of tha team scoured:': double-figure averages, showing that tho '.; batting right through was of a high stall--; dard. C. Corbett ])rovcd himself onoo moro an able trundlcr, and deservedly won t3io , trophy, with an averago of 8.8. In all this . player secured 25 wickets for 221 runs. B. Cummings and C. Wordsworth also did 1 ' yeoman service in this department, securing an average of 10.8 and 9.7 respectively. The Second Grade team was considorably weakened by tho elevation of several of tho principal members to senior rank and by losses through removal from .. the district. Although this team dhl nob • succeed in again winning the shield, it v attained the creditable, position of third on the list, by winning five matches out o£ eight played. D. Mowatt won tho batting average with 21.9. The bowling trophy-.; was obtained by A. S. Worrall, with an . avorngo of 13.7. Tlio Third Grade team'' met with a fair amount success, winning", seven matches. The batting averago was •' scoured by James Marks, with the splendid ■■■■ performance _ of 345 runs for 17 innings. ■> This promising young player also secured! -.'- tho special trophy for tho most promising! colt, A. Otto won tho bowling averago with 7.7. Tho A team ilid not'porform as well as was anticipated, winning only tfarco matches. The batting' and bowling* . averages were secured by T. Brown and D. Eckhoff respectively. Tlio Fourth Grado put up a fair performance by winning mora than half its matches. Joo Marks won the batting avorage with 9.8, , while R. Goyen won tho bowling with 5.5, ) Notwithstanding the many losses by reason of romoval, the club still claims tho largest membership in the, city, about 90 members representing tho club. Thoi ground has onco moro been improved, particularly oh tho King street side, by levoliirig and turfing, . a considerable portion.' Tlio committee.}' marks with pleasure tho gradual improve-, 1 ' ment.in tho wickets, and trusts_ tlio im - coming season will sco further improve- -' mcnte'in this respect. A.word of praise is duo to Mr Payne, who, throughout the . season, was employed as groundsman. On, several occasions- tho committee found... itself in a, financial difficulty, owing chiefly.';. to having to meet a corporation account i of '£20, proportion of cost of new fence, - and also the laxity_ of several members to ' pay their subscriptions. Tlio record gato:takings of £40 odd was gratifying. The committeo feels thlat tho timo has arrived for raising the amount of the subscription. , This increase' js absolutely necessary, con" sidering the amount of money that is re- , qitirod for material, the upkeep of tho ' turf wickets and ground. A proposal in ■'; this direction will bo submitted dt the forthcoming annual meeting! and should meet with this approval of tho members. The club was represented in intorpro: vincial cricket by T. M'Farlane, S. Hiddleston, and E. Cummings. In tho junior representative inntoh against Canterbury no fewer than six Albion players we're ; selected—namelv, W. Strang, G. Duthie, ' J. Shephlji'd, A. S. Worrall, W. Davis,.'; and F. Binney, and wcro responsible for,', good performances. In the match Otagc -.
