(Pes' United Press Association.! AUCKLAND, August 29. Fire, partly destroyed a two-storey house in South street, Newton, Auckland, at' 3 o'clock on Sunday-morning.. The tenant (Mr R! O'Neill) was awakened by a crackling noise, and found the house full of smoke, He and.his wife escaped by an mpstiiirs; window to a verandah, and reached the ground by aneaas of a rope and a fire escape. The house was owned by Mrs Schofield. The damage to tlio house amounts to about £50.
