ROSLYN TENNIS CLUB.
'• ■ ANNUAL MEETING. The sixth'annual meeting of the Roslyn Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Kosly.ii Institute Hall last evening. There was a good attendance of members, and Mr J. L. Salmond presided. The following is a precis <ji" the annual report:—" During tho year £50 has bsen paid towards the purchase monev of tho grounds, leaving a balanco of £200 still owing, and in spite of the large payment tli© balance sheet shows a credit balanoe of £17 6s lOd. Tho committee is having olans prepared for the extension of the present pavilion, and as these improvements will greatly add to the comfort of members it is hoped that the incoming committee will put them in hand at once. Two teams were entered for tho grade competitions, on© in the B Grade and one in the (J Grade, both of which were very successful, The. following are the results:—B Grade: Played 5, won 3, lest 2. G Grade: Played 7, won 4, lost 3. Seeing that both teams were so high up, it is to bo hoped that the association will consider tho question of raising the status of the- club in order to, j*ive players the opportunity fo; better practice. Instead of the usual moonlight ooncssrt it was decided to hold a cencert in the Koslyn Hall. Although tho result financially was not quite up to expectations tho club's funds were helped to the extent of £7 15s by tins venture. Tt is with tho greatet -regret that we have t) record the loss of one of our members, Mr L. J. Worrall, who died early in this month, and his la.to club mates express their, deepest sympathy with his paients and family in their bereavement." In moving tho adoption of the report and balance dieet, Mr Salmond said it must be a matter for satisfaction to all the members to mote that each year found the club in a better position, than the previous year. That spoke well for the management and for tho enthusiasm. All the members of the club had dono their'best during the year. It was only by that means that tho club would prosper iand they would be enabled to wipe out the amount—£2oo— outstanding on account of the ground. It would not bo necessary to pay this amount off for somo time yet, so that iny money th&y had over a.nd above their ordinary expenditure would so towards making the members more comfortable and the ground more attractive. Tho speaker said there was a movement afoot to get the rates, taken off the grounds used solely for recreative purposes, and it would bo a, desirable tiling if they could have their rate remover). The motion was carried.. ! The election of oflice-bsarcrs resulted as follows :--Fresident, Mr J. L. Salmond; vice-presidents—Messrs R. S. Black, G. B. Bullock, a«l Captain Strang; secretary, Mr fi. 11. Calder; treasure!, Mr R. S. Black; auditor. Mr E. W. M'Dougall moved—" That the annual subscription be increased to £1 7s 6d for gentlemen and 15s for ladies, reducible to £1 3s and 12s 6d respectively if paid before December 1 in each year." This meant, making an addition of 2s to each subscription, and the mover explained that the reason for this wa& that the association was imposing a levy of 2s per :lub member in aid of tho new courts at Anderson's Bay. The motion- was seconded. Mr R. S. Black moved as an amendment —"That the subscriptions to £l 10s for gentlemen and 15s for ladies, reducible to £1 Es'nnd 12« 6d respectively if paid before December i in each year." The amendment was lost,-and the, motion was carried. It was resolved that 1 the iissoeciatioti be written to and naked that tho Roslyn Club's teams be raised to the A and B grade instead of B and C grade as at present. A long and desultory discussion took place on the advisability of limiting the age at which members could join. _ Somn members expressed the opinion that it would be inadvisable to allow youu* boys to become members, on the around that ihey would monopolise t.he courts. Finally Mr R. S.' Black gave notice of motion as follows— "That, no person under 17 years of ago be alllowed to join the club." Mr Lilley also gave notice of motion—" That members under 18 years bs not allowed to play on tho courts 'between 2.30 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, and after S p.m. on west i I "ays, and in matches."
