All three, sessions at the Brydone Hall Roller Skating Rink were well patronised on Saturday. To-night, by way of variety, a. ladies' and gentlemen's human perambulator race will take, place. Tho skating according to the attendance, thows no signs of decreasing in popularity. The usual sessions will be held to-day. SMOKE CONCERT. ■ A most successful smoke concert was held by the Pirates Football Club in tile Masonio Hall on .Saturday evening. It was attended by over 60 memlxns and their friends. Tlw president of the club (Mr P. S. K. Macasscy) occupied the chair, and was supported by Mr F. H. Campbell (president ol the 0.R.F.U.), Messrs P. J..Pri«t, W. Kingston, J. ;W. Matfhewson, and other old members of 'the club. Apologies were received 1 from Messrs Crosby Morris, J. Hi'lop, James Hutchison, and also from Mr Crawford, of the Port Chalmers Club. Tho Chairman, in his opening remarks, congratulated the past members on their seccm-l win over tho present players, and urged upon the present players the necessity of putting more energy into the training and general interest in the game, us the present position of the club could bo easily raised by more enthusiasm baing displayed by the members. Tho toast ■ list.. included "The Kiiig," "Tho Referee,". "Tins. ■ 0.R.F.U.," "The Visiters," "Tho Ladies," "*Tlie Past Mombsis," and "Tho Press." The musical programme was contributed lo by Messrs Mncassey, Jackson, Wright, Rces, Munro, Billington, Brown, , X. Smith, and Hunter. The thanks of th-3 club arc duo to Mr A. Jackicm, who officiated at. tho piano. ' The catering- of Ml V. Thomas was also much appreciated. A most enioyable evening terminated about ' II o'clock. : DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS SOCIETY. Tho above society's annual festival will commence to-morrow in His Majesty's Theatre. The official programme is now out. It contains the words of. all tho -vocal items. Tlie programme for to-morrow is a mcst attractive one. At 10 a.m., in His Majesty's Theatre, the musical moiiologuo will be heard. In the Victoria Hall, at 2 p.m., the humorous recitation by gentlemen will be given', and tho prepared speech and recitation by lady amateurs "The.Lady of Shajot." In tho afternoon the piano solo, "Jdvlls," and soprano solo, "How fair is .the eavth," also tho tenor solo, " Evening," will to heard in the theatre. At the evening session the festival will bo ofllcialy opened by his Worship tho Mayor (Mr T. Cole), and the recalls of tho items . heard during the day will ho herd. tfio programme concluding with a comotlistla, "Cynthia's Captive." An rxcelleitt programme has been arranged for each day, and tho public can look forward to 10 days' interesting entertainment.
