WELLINGTON, August 28. ■Though rain prevented tho Ministerial loception to Lady Islington taking the iorm of a garden party in the parliamentary grounds, the function was held in the 1 own Hall, and was quite a success. Some 2000 people had been invited and nearly all were present., Lady Islincton, with whom were Lady Beatrice Kerr Uark, Lady Islington's, little daughter. Joan, and Miss Cotton, skid she would like to shake hands with the people, and for over an hour a constant stream of people were presented. It must' have been a rather trying ordeal, but she went through it smilingly. Afterwards Sir Joseph Word, who alw&ye appears to advantage on Mich occasions, made a very happy little 6peoch of wclcome. To tho surprise of everyone, Lady Islington etopped forward, and in a charming impromptu speech, expressed her gratitude ajid thanks not only for the welcome she had leceived, but also for the warm welcome Hint had already been extended- to her! husband on the occasion of his arrival in New Zealand. Lord Islington also rose to speak, but he smilingly told the people that he would not make a speech. I Turning to his wife, who had resumed her seat, he simply said, " Them's my sentiment*," < whereat his audience laughed in sympathy.
