At a special meeting of the Ravensbourne School Committee held on Friday eveningMr James D. Rout ton was selected to fill the position of first assistant in the school, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr Willirim Martin.
Madame Calve, the famous operatic singer, who is to tour New Zealand, armed at Auckland by the Winunera from Sydney yesterday (says a Press Association telegram). She will give her Bret concert in Auckland on Wednesday.

Mr Arthur Withy has been appointed lecturer and organiser for New Zealand under the scheme for the promotion of the cause of land value taxation, Mr Joseph' Fejs having instituted a fund for that purpose (says tl-.e Evening Post). Mr Withy is a son of Mr E. Withy, who represented an Auckland constituency in Parliament during 1887-90. lie has had a good deal of experience recently as a Liberal organiser and lecturer for the Freetrade Union in England, and was actively engaged in (he contest over the Lloyd George Budget. He is expected to reach Wellington next month.
