Previous to tho ladies' interprovincial hockey match on Saturday a men's trial match was played on tho Caledonian Ground between selected teams in white and in colours. Tho rain and tho heaviness of tho ground worn against a good exhibition, and in tho circumstances combination also' was naturally largely lacking. OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND. After the trial match the selectors chose the following team to represent Otago in the match against Southland:—Goal, Gotz; full backs—Alexander and Austin; halves—Slater, Chalmers, Park; forwards —Moody, Calder, M'Clure, Rutherford, Footc.
