THE FUNERAL NATIONAL TRIBUTES. Prws Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 21. (Received August 22, at 0.20 a.m.) Large crowds followed the funeral cortege of Florenco Nightingale from where she died at South street to Waterloo Station for East Wellow. There was a profusion of wreaths. Queen Alexandra sent a cross of orchide inscribed "In memory of the greatest benefactress of suffering humanity."
The Grenadier, Coldstream, and Scots Guards carried the coffin to the train, and acted as a bearer party at East Wellow. The wreaths included one from the Tasmanian Nurses' Association.
. Five thousand people attended a memorial service at St. Paul's Cathedral. King George, Queen Mary, Queen Alexandra, the Duke of Connaught, Princess Christian, and Mr Asquith were represented, as also were the War Office and the Admiralty hospitals, nursing institutions, and home and foreign Red Cross societies. Seven hundred nurses gathered under the dome with 40 Crimean veterans. The Royal Victorian trained nurses sent a sympathetic telegram. There were many other colonial tributes.
Mr Wiiitelaw Rcid, American Ambassador in England, with his wife and a brilliant group cf army and navy offioers and privates, attended the services in St. Paul's Cathedral.
