AREA'S UNDER SURVEY.

WELLINGTON, 'July 28. . In an interview Mr W. D. S. J[ ac . Donald (Bay of Plenty) said that great activity was being shown at*the present time in settling Native land. To illustrate this he had had a return compiled of the amount being surveyed in the four provincial 'districts of the North Island. The figures were as follow:— ' Areas under Survey Land Court and Maori Land Board. Province. No. Surveyors. Acres. . Auckland ... 46 ... 281,875 I-lawko's -Bay... 13 1 •... 58,468 Taranaki ... 9 ... 61,323 "Wellington ... 6 ... 64,083 Total ... 74 ...' 465,749 : As 26 surveyors and assistants were in charge of parties, there were 100 surveyors in all. .
