LAWN TENNIS.
; ST. KILDA CLUB. In presenting the annual report the committeo of tho St. Kilda Lawn Tennis Club reports that the membership stands at 51— 23 gentlomtyi and 28 ladies. During the year tho ladies' momborship reached 30, and was closed. Tho statement of finances; snows a great improvement on last year's figures. This is due partly, to tho fact . that no expense of vital importance was incurred during tho year and partly to the fact that a very successful open-air concert (held in December, 1909) netted £15. Most of tho money it is intended, to expend on a third court, and there are numerous other expenses to bo met. The club succeeded in annexing the C Grade Banner, losing only one match. The B team, from • which so much was expected after its.performance of tho previous season, failed to come up to expectations, playing fivo matches, and winning three. The 'club events were, kjenly contested, although there was a certain amount of dissatisfaction among some regarding the implied .unfair scratching of competitors who had not played off within tho specified timo Tho committee regrets that only three men*'' bers of the eliib entered for the tournament at Easter, Threo out of 51; ia surely a verj poor proportion. The committee was unfortunate in losina the services of Mr J. Hart, who was a most energetic mombor.- Mr Hart left Dimedin temporarily, but it is hoped tJiat'he will be back again for .next season. 'With the extending of tho playing area, and the added, income derived from the increased membership that must follow, the com'm^*LVn■b?Pes <hat ft « club's premises will be brought more up-to-date, and the tarmuig of the.new third court will bo tho first .'■■.'■'■'.'
