In vain my bookplate pasted strong— He st<33 but docs not heed it; Ho thinks a volume should belong To him who best can read it; And so my books must pass to him Because ho is so gifted, And 1 must gropo with eyeballs dim 'Co note what he has "lifted," 'Tis true ho Ticl me of my Paini, Tot. did not, case my sorrow; I find my toeko and Ward wero vain, And so am driv'n to Borrow. Of Lamb and Haro I am. bereft, . My Homo and Hall are taken, And though iny Ettrick Hogg is left, Ha -robs me of my Bacon, He lays my Millon Liberty" Where ditto "on the Floss" is, And every' Hope he leaves to me Is hostage for more losses. For all things left T have to pay ' By gaps that are the greater; He hides my Motherwell away And robs mo of my Pater. He found me Hardy, Gay, Hate, But Haggard; thus lie leaves me; •My Harto is torn, by Cheke is pale, My Howell shows how he grieves me. In vain I've I'raed and Bought anew,.
