COLLIE DOG TRIALS.
TAIERI CLUB. Seco.vd Dai. In spite of a cold wind and an ominous sky, there was a very largo attendance at the Taicri Collie Club's trials yesterday, when the All-oomers' entries were run oft successfully. There were 30 cptrics, and taken as a- wholo the work done by tho dogs was very good. Especially good form ivas noticeable in tlie pull, also in brin;ing lrack. Work at tho yards was woll above the average. Many parts of Otago, Canterbury. and Southland were represented in the entry list. Mr R. R. Pollock, of Kelso, won the first and second prizes, and Mr W. J. Scott, of Gore, and Mr J. B. Purdue, of Nightcaps, divided third and .'fourth. It will be seen that the prize money is substantial. Tho second day of tho trials, like tho first, was a success, tho collapse of the luncheon .tent fortunately resulting in only smashed crockery, and laughter. To-day the farmers and butchers' consolation, and special prizo events will be decided, together with tho guessing competition. Results:— ALL-COMERS'.—Head, pull,, and yard, about 500 yds. Time 12 minutes. Priics, I first £8, second £5, third, £3, fourth £1. Thirty entries. Points—Heading 10, command 8, pulling 8, style at yards 6, yarding 4. R. R. Pollock's "Sam," head 9, command 8, pull 8, style at yards 6, yarding 4; total 35 ... 1 R. It. Pollock's "Bobb," head 9, command 7, pull 6, style at yards 6, yarding 4; total 32. 2 W. J. Scott's Don, head 9, command 6, pull 7. style at yards 4, yarding 4; total 30; and J. B. Purdue's Fan, head 8, command 7, pull 6, style at .yards 5, yarding 4; total 30, 3 and 4,(divided). Sam was inclined to wander a. littlo at the start, but on'.tho whole went out fairly well, improving' in the distance. Ho made a. good mad, but pulled l a little oft tho line iat the rushes. Ilis work at-the yards was good. Time, Bmin 25sec. Bobb loitered a little at tho start,' and camo in rather on his cast. He'' headed well and pulled very steadily, but got off the lino.' Work at the yards was good.' Time, 7min 15acc. Don went out well, but did not make a very clean , hea,.d, and pulled very rashly at first, Hq \yent off the line after crossing the rushes, but did very good work at tho yards. Time, 7min 51scc. Fan made a good run out, but scarcely made a clean head, and only showed medium command.. She was slack. Work at the yards was fair. Time, 9min 50sec. Messrs. Scotfc and Purduo divided third, and fourth prizes. BRUCE CLUB. - The Bruce trials were held on Tuesday and Wednesday at Mr R. Sinclair's Riversdale farm, at One Tree Point. There were 19 entries for the Maiden class, 19 for the Farmers and Butchers' class, and 22 for the All-Comers' event. . The conditions were tho isame in caoh event—namely: Head, pull, and yard; about'soo,yds; time 10 minutes.' The maximum points were: Heading 8, pulling 8, style at yards 6; yarding 4, command 8; total 34 points.. Results:—
MAIDEN.—For dogs that- have never won a first prize. Prizes £4, £2, and £1. R. Eraser's. (Albury) Lord Lovat, 6, 7, . 5, 4; 6, 28 points, ... 1 J. Wyber's (Gore) Maud, 23i points, * R. W.
