IMMIGRATION OF BOYS.
DISCUSSION AT AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. -June 10. The question' of tho immigration ot boys from Great Britain was again discussed at this afternoon's meeting of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The Chairman' (Mr Gray)'said lie had noticed that some gentlemen were opposing the Echeitie. Certain members of Parliament were already raising a protest, and they had no doubt, read the extraordinary telegram sent to the Prime Minister by Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P. The farmers could not gat boys to follow agricultural pursuite, yet Mr Taylor at oncb sent a protest on the ground that there were boys in New Zealand wanting work.
Mr J. R. Walters: Mr Taylor is simply trying to catch the Labour vote. Mr Gray: It is only proposed to bring about 50 of these boys, and it might be a means of setting up good settlers. It is a. pity cold water should be thrown uoon the scheme. ■
Mir Ambury said farmers were not going to be tied down to stipulated wages nor to a throe-years' agreement: when the boys came out here, knowing absolutely nothing about the work they had-to do. For some considerable time they would not be worth anything at all.
